Official news
The 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is taking place in the Uzbek capital — one of the most important events in the region's sporting life. The forum is attended by representatives from 45 countries who are discussing topics related to promoting the Olympic movement on the Asian continent, as well as electing a new leader of the organization.
Turkmenistan is represented at the assembly by an official delegation. The General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan, Ata Akmamedov, is participating in the forum's work. The State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports is headed by Allaberdy Saparov. The online portal Turkmenportal has been invited to the event as a media partner.
The central event of the assembly is the election of a new OCA president. The only candidate for this position is the head of the Olympic Committee of Qatar, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. The need for elections is due to the fact that the current OCA president, Raja Randhir Singh from India, cannot continue to perform his duties for medical reasons.
In the General Assembly program, participants are discussing strategic directions, including sports development programs in Asia for the period up to 2028. Special emphasis is placed on the digitalization of sports organizations and expanding youth participation in the Olympic movement.
